Bill Henson

Bill Henson is an Australian photographer. HIs career started as a painter with inspiration discorvered from the sketches of the rembrandt. At only 19, his first solo exhibition of photography, was held at the National Gallery of Victoria.

Within his photography he uses strong light contrasts (this is called chiaroscuro). In order to create an ambience of artistic style of a painting in his work, he uses bokeh (a technique in which certain parts of a photograph are made to be out-of-focus and so can create a more centred focus mostly).

"Henson's interest is not in telling stories but in how the aesthetics of his pictures might summon emotions: if an image should take the viewer's brain in one direction and their heart in another, he is happy."

As Bill Henson does, I altered the contrast on my image, making the darker colours more prominent which created a focus on the water.

In order to replicate Henson's photos, I added noise to the photo in order to achieve a grainier effect to the image.

I then further altered the contrast to give the photo an overall darker atmosphere.
